Which memory card do you need for 4K video?

By Shree Sagar Sales · 28 September 2026

SD memory card

A slow or fake memory card is one of the most common reasons a camera stops recording mid-shot. Here’s how to choose the right one.

Read the speed markings

Memory cards carry several symbols. For video, the one that matters most is the video speed class:

Marking Minimum sustained write speed Good for
V30 30 MB/s Most 4K video from entry and mid-range cameras
V60 60 MB/s Higher-bitrate 4K, faster burst shooting
V90 90 MB/s High-bitrate professional video formats

U3 means at least 30 MB/s, similar to V30. The big “up to 200 MB/s” number on the front is the read speed. It affects how fast you copy files to a computer, not whether your camera can record.

Which card for which camera?

  • Beginner and creator mirrorless cameras (Canon R50, Sony ZV-E10 II and similar): a V30 SD card is enough for their 4K modes.
  • Drones and action cameras: a microSD card rated A2, V30, U3.
  • High-end hybrid cameras: check the manual. Some formats need V60 or V90, or CFexpress.

How much space?

4K video fills cards quickly. 128 GB is the sweet spot for most people. Carry two cards rather than one huge one, so a single failure doesn’t cost you the whole day.

Avoid fake cards

Counterfeit cards are common, especially online. They can show a large capacity but silently fail once a small amount is written. Buy from a trusted store, keep the bill, and format the card in your camera before first use.

We sell only 100% genuine SanDisk cards. Ask us on WhatsApp which capacity suits your camera.
